About us

Ware Museum CIO provides a much loved and valued service for the community.

Our independent, accredited museum tells the story of life in the town from the Mesolithic period to the present day. The museum enables everyone who works, lives or visits Ware to access the collections and heritage of the town and the surrounding area for inspiration, learning and enjoyment. It is located in the Priory Lodge, a Grade II listed building at the entrance to Ware Priory, which dates back to the 14th century.

The museum hosts regular meetings for U3A groups, holiday art and craft activities for families, learning sessions for schools and guided walking tours of Ware. Family friendly features including an archaeological dig and play area for younger visitors are always popular. The museum is free to visit and all visitors are given a warm welcome by our friendly and knowledgeable volunteer stewards.

Ware Museum is a registered charity which relies on grants and charitable donations as well as our fundraising activities. We need your help so we can continue to look after and develop our collections and offer engaging exhibitions and events to the community of Ware.

Thank you for your support and good luck!

Yours sincerely,

Cathy De'Freitas, Museum Manager
