About us
Hertford Bowls Club and Hertford Castle Bowls Club have both been in existence for over one hundred years and under the banner of Wallfields Bowls they jointly lease the green at Wallfields. Each club has a full summer season of friendly and competitive matches, as well as roll-ups and club competitions. They are affiliated to County and District Bowls Associations and enter teams into various leagues. In the winter months they play a number of matches indoors as well as having several social events at the Wallfields clubhouse and elsewhere.
One of the main purposes of the clubs is to provide regular physical activity and a place for good social contact. In collaboration with Herts Social Services, Hertford BC also runs weekly sessions throughout the year for Carers who are in need of some respite. Special sessions during school holidays have also recently been successfully introduced for Young Carers. A series of taster sessions is planned for the summer to encourage other disadvantaged groups to try their hand.
The clubs are responsible for the maintenance and insurance of the green and the clubhouse and with ever rising costs this proves increasingly difficult. It is hoped that the lottery will provide some additional funds which willl be well used for these purposes. Any help that comes this way will be gratefully received and well used.
New members are always welcome at either club and details are on their websites.
