East Herts Lottery Turns Three

30 March 2022

-                  150 local organisations registered

-                  £120,893.40 fundraised for local good causes

-                  £28,775 paid in prize winnings

The East Herts Lottery - set up by the council to help local charities, voluntary organisations, sports clubs and community groups to generate extra funding – started in 2019 and since then 150 local causes have registered, generating over £120,000 in fundraising income.

Supporters have also had reason to celebrate with £28,775 paid out in prize winnings that range from £25 to £2,000.  The lottery really is a win win: 50% of every ticket goes directly back to the cause(s) that players choose to support; and a further 10% pledged straight to the East Herts Council Community Fund which distributes discretionary community grants across the district.

Speaking about the success of the lottery so far, Cllr Jonathan Kaye, Executive Member for Communities at East Herts Council said:

“When the lottery launched in 2019 we knew it would become a regular source of funding for those involved but to know that in just three years over £120,000 has been raised to support local not for profit organisations is amazing.

“I hope that by highlighting the success the lottery has had to date that we can encourage even more community groups, sports clubs, voluntary organisations and local charities to get involved too.  It’s free to join, new causes are guided through the registration process, and once registered everything is automated, from emails to help you drum up support, to an online dashboard to help you keep track of fundraising.

“Our East Herts Community Fund receives a small percentage of every ticket sale and since 2019 over £26,000 has been generated which we have been able to distribute back out across the district to the benefit of multiple community groups and organisation each year.

“The East Herts Lottery enables not for profit organisations to generate much needed income and having seen such success in just three years it will be interesting to see how much it continues to grow in future years to come.”
